Wye Creamery

How Caple, Hereford, Herefordshire

The Wye Valley grows good cheese the way other places grow good wine. The river meanders the border between England and Wales through some of the loveliest pasture in Britain - designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1971, but quietly producing fine food long before that - and the small dairies tucked into its folds have a knack for turning local milk into cheese worth crossing a county for. Wye Creamery is one of them. A small-batch cheesemaker working in the same valley as Neal's Yard Creamery, Monkland Cheese Dairy and Brookes's Wye Valley Dairy - proper company, in other words. They keep production deliberately small, sell most of what they make direct through their own shop and post the week's news to @wyecreamery on Instagram. You'll notice I've kept the detail light. That's Bryn behind Wye Creamery, like most of the best small producers we feature, I am guessing is too busy making cheese to spend much time online - which in my experience is always a good sign. I'm hoping he'll claim this listing and tell their own story, in his own words. If you've bought Wye Creamery and have something worth adding a cheese name, a market they appear at, a dish that shows them off please send me an email to hello@producednearby.com.
