Walsingham Farm Shop, Little Walsingham, Norfolk
Little Walsingham, Walsingham, Norfolk, NR22 6BU
Walsingham Farm Shop began with a government report. After the Curry Report of 2002, the commission's look at the future of farming and food, the Walsingham Estate and one of its farming tenants opened a shop together on Guild Street in Little Walsingham, north Norfolk, to link the estate with the farmers who rent its land. It has a full butchery counter, with meat from local farms, and an open kitchen where the team make their own pies, soups, ready meals and cakes. Sam Bagge runs the shop as general manager. You can shop in person or order online. The cheese counter is where it crosses paths with the rest of this guide. Walsingham stocks Mrs Temple's, Ferndale and Wilton Farm, three Norfolk cheesemakers already on Produced Near-By, so you can buy all three in one place. Little Walsingham is a pilgrimage village and most visitors come for the shrines. I'd make the farm shop part of the trip. An estate shop set up to give its own tenant farmers a counter is a good idea, and one more estates could copy.

What do you sell?
A butchery counter selling meat from local farms, and an open kitchen making the shop's own pies, soups, ready meals and cakes. Alongside those, the everyday things a village needs: bread, milk, fruit and vegetables. The cheese counter carries Norfolk cheeses, including Mrs Temple's, Ferndale and Wilton Farm, and the drinks shelves have local ales and Norfolk wine. You can buy in the shop on Guild Street or order online, which makes it one of the easier ways to get Norfolk cheese and the kitchen's pies without making the drive.
Which local producers do you stock?
Three Norfolk cheesemakers who are also on Produced Near-By. Mrs Temple's Cheese, made near Wells-next-the-Sea from the family's own milk. Ferndale Cheeses. And Wilton Farm at Hockwold. The butchery's meat comes from local farms, though the shop doesn't publish which ones, and the pies, soups, ready meals and cakes are made in its own kitchen on site. If you want to know where a particular cut came from, the butchery counter is the place to ask.
