The Iron and Brass Bed Company makes iron, brass and polished nickel beds to order at Wolferton, on the Sandringham Estate in west Norfolk. Every bed comes with a lifetime guarantee. They know you won't want to replace it! It's a family business, started in 2005, and it holds a Royal Warrant as bed manufacturers. Patrick Grant lists them in Less, his book about buying fewer, better things, which is how I first came across them. Most bed frames are bought to last until the next house move. These are made to outlast that move, and the one after it... Each bed is made to order rather than pulled from a warehouse. The wool in their mattresses comes from fleece supplied by the Sandringham Estate, so the beds and what goes on them come from the same few miles of west Norfolk. The showroom is at Dersingham, about ten minutes from the workshop, and booking ahead is recommended, which suits the purchase: nobody should rush buying a bed they mean to keep. Furniture doesn't often make it onto Produced Near-By, because so little of it is still made by the people selling it. This is a rare exception I'd point you to in Norfolk.

Can people visit or buy direct?

The showroom at 5 St Nicholas' Court, Dersingham, is about ten minutes from the workshop. Booking an appointment is required: call 01485 542516. Beds are made to order, and you can try the wool mattresses in the showroom.
