Norwich FarmShare, Whitlingham, Norfolk

Near Trowse, Norwich, Norfolk

Once a week, members collect a bag of vegetables from St Mary Magdalene Church in Norwich, or have it brought round by bike. Norwich FarmShare is a not-for-profit co-operative that has grown vegetables on a three-acre site at Whitlingham, near Trowse on the south-east edge of the city, since 2018. It's community-supported agriculture, which means members share the harvest rather than shopping for it. What's in the bag depends on what's ready that week. Members and volunteers help on the land too. And they share whatever the season brings, including the weeks when there's less to harvest. When the field can't fill the bag, eggs, fruit and winter veg are bought in from small growers nearby. The scheme isn't certified organic and doesn't claim to be. I like that it's straight about it. A veg scheme that tells you what it grows and what it buys in is rarer than it should be, and worth backing. If you live in Norwich, it's worth looking into membership.
